Glass rods are melted over an open flame, hand-turned and wound onto steel mandrels. No machines. Just the skilled hands and eyes of makers who know exactly when to shape, when to cool, and when to wait.
2. Molded or pressed, never rushed.
Some beads are shaped freeform; others use traditional molds dating back decades. Pressed flower beads, faceted nuggets, and leaf shapes — all require careful molding, often in several rounds.
3. Finishing touches that take days.
Colors are layered. Coatings like Picasso or AB shimmer are hand-applied and then fired again. Some beads are sandblasted or etched. Others go through fire-polishing to give them that unmistakable glow.
4. Not every bead makes it.
Because the process is so delicate, many beads crack or fail. The more complex the bead, the lower the yield. This is part of what makes Czech glass expensive — and valuable.
